Father And Sons.

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Here’s another gift for the father! It was a plate with Calvin’s drawing on it. He made it at Kindy. Again, he couldn’t wait to present the gift to his father the moment he arrived home. He was so proud of himself, I tell you. The father was very pleased too!

Here’s Athan and his papa. I have to say that this boy knew I was taking a picture of him and he also knew he had to “smile”! This boy really has a special bond with his dad. He looks for his dad at specific times of the day and at times when he is really really upset, only the father can be patient and calm with him and eventually help him settle down. That’s special.

Calvin Talks.

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Calvin and I got into a conversation this morning while he was eating his breakfast and I was packing his lunch bag for kindy. The conversation went like this:

Me: So, Calvin are you going to ride the bikes at school today?
Calvin: Yeah.
Me: Who are you going to play with today?
Calvin: Hmmm… Trenton, Toby, Will, Mia, Kate and um….
Me: Will you play nicely with them?
Calvin: Yeah.
Me: Can you throw sand?
Calvin: No.
Me: Can you kick sand?
Calvin: No.
Me: Good. So, what will happen to you if you throw or kick sand?
Calvin: Don’t ask me anymore question mama, please!
Me: (shocked) Why?
Calvin
: You are asking too much!

Gee…. my son is really talking like me! Yup, I do say “you are asking too much” if he asked me too many questions and I do not know how to answer him. Parenting can be scary!

By the way, the reason why I asked Calvin about the throwing and kicking sand part is because he has told me before some kid threw sand at him and he threw sand back at the kid! He thought it was a game until he got hurt. After that incident, I explained to him why it was wrong to throw sand and what would happen to him if he did it to his friends. The answer I was waiting to hear was “ma ma will disciple”. I find myself asking him the same questions week after week just to make sure he has understood me. Perhaps I have really asked too much!

A Gift For Pa Pa.

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I picked Calvin from day care today and he showed me a nicely wrapped up gift for his dad. That was when I realised that this Sunday is Father’s Day (at least it is so over here in Australia — anyway, I think the date for Father’s day is not universal). The day care centre must have organised for the children to make something for their fathers. That was nice.

It was an oversized laminated cardboard necktie with Calvin’s decoration on it. The boy was so excited and could not wait to go home and present the gift to his papa. So, the moment we got home, he made a dash to his dad who was cooking dinner for us (how good is that? :)). He presented the gift and made his father “wear” the gift too! Here’s the elated father with his proud son:

Here’re the words on the tie:

#1 DAD

Daddy, I love you
For all that you do.
I’ll kiss you and hug you
‘Cause you love me, too.

You feed me and need me
To teach you to play,
So smile ’cause I love you
On this Father’s Day.

Played Up.

Monday, September 1st, 2008

The two boys played up this evening at bedtime. They simply refused to listen to me.

Calvin demanded to read book after book when usually he only reads one. Athan, this little boy, just followed his brother and copied all the actions and babbled away as if he was telling me off. I have no idea why they behaved this way tonight as they are normally quite cooperative before bedtime. Perhaps, it was because their father wasn’t around this evening. I am not sure. Anyway, when I asked them to come to me to get changed into their PJs, you know what they did? Calvin took Athan’s little hand and the two of them just walked out of the room towards the lounge room hand in hand. I stood there not sure whether I should laugh or to scream at them. INSTEAD I quickly took my camera and took a shot of them. The picture on the left is I have captured. They were obviously enjoying the attention they are getting from me!

My two boys really drive me up the wall sometimes and at the same time, they really do make me smile. Sigh. I am sure you can attest to what I am saying here especially if you are a mum like me. Anyway, when the two boys have done their little tour hand in hand around the house, they were finally settled down and ready to obey me. They were in bed within minutes without a sound. Nice.
