Athan Speaks.

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Athan’s current favourite words are “ba ba” (calling his dad). When he calls his dad, his voice is really loud and clear. I wish I know how to import a little video or audio clip right here so that you can hear him call his father. I know … I should learn. It’s quite entertaining to hear him speak I have to say, and you know what? I am “jealous”!! Why? Because my little boy has yet to call me and when I encourage him to call me “ma ma”, he calls out “ba ba”!! Gee…. Of course the father is very happy and he always gives the boy a respond and I think that has encouraged Athan to call him even more. Anyway, I am glad that Athan is (at least) speaking especially given that he is still not quite interested in walking at the moment.

We are getting busy as our trip is drawing near. I won’t have time to post anything until we return. Till then.

Planning.

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Guess what? We are currently planning a family holiday! Robin decided that it’s time we spend some quality family time together. He is so right. I am excited and hopefully we will have a restful and enjoyable time. We will be away this Wednesday and back Sunday. I will post up some pictures when we return. Do pray for safe journey mercy for us.

Two Steps And Better.

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Mr Athan is finally getting better! His wheeze seems to have settled down quite well. We can still hear a bit of noise when he breathes, but his breathing is definitely much smoother as compared to last week. AND, he took two steps today!! It was before his bedtime, I made him stand up and I purposely stood a short distance away from him. He stood there and looked at me while I encouraged him to walk to me. He tried and walked 2 little steps all by himself before his bottom reached the floor. I was so excited for him, and wanted him to repeat his little walk, but he refused. Oh well, I know that my little boy, he is in no hurry to walk.

Wet And Cold.

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

It has been so cold these few days, and wet too. Depressing. We could not go to the park or any where outdoors to spend the afternoon. Also, with Athan’s wheezing problem, I am reluctant to go out with him when the air is cold outside. And so, the boys were home all day playing toys and annoying each other. 🙂 And me? Trying to be the mediator, but for most of the time I was trying very hard to keep them entertained with lots of different activities. That was hard work!

Wheezey.

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

For the past few days, Athan has been having a chesty cough and he has been wheezing as a result of it. The wheeze is not that serious — well, he is still eating, playing and sleeping normally despite the wheeze — in a sense that he is not struggling to breathe. However, I get worried (as I always do) whenever I hear his noisy breathing. I’m worried that he is asthmatic and I am not doing the right thing for him.

I brought him to his GP today for a checkup. He said that Athan is still too young (under 2) to determine whether he is asthmatic. He could well be if he continues to have wheezing episode at every cough and cold that he has. Right now, he reckons that Athan has a viral infection and it will clear up on its own. He added that Athan’s wheeze would not get any worse, rather, it would disappear soon. However, he said that we could help Athan breathe better by using a puffer. We did a test at the clinic and it seemed to worked quite well on the boy.

I am relieved, kind of, for now knowing that my little boy is going to be OK. He is still so cheeky despite wheezing away! That’s a good sign. Do pray for Athan that he will get well soon and won’t get any more wheezing episodes.

Play Doh.

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

I was feeling lazy this afternoon and so I didn’t end up bringing the boys to the park as initially planned. Good thing that I did not tell Calvin about going to the park else he would be very very disappointed and would pester me non-stop with his favourite question “why”. He has such good memory for these things — I have learnt my lesson!

I pulled out the long forgotten play doh set and decided that it would be a “play doh” afternoon for the boys. Athan really enjoyed it — in his own way :). Calvin enjoyed playing with the doh too. He loved to make “spaghetti with meatballs” and “cookies” with the presser and stamps. Oh, and he loved making “snakes” too. 🙂 He’s quite creative. I should have taken some photos of his creations — maybe next time.

I love seeing the boys sitting side by side playing together. There was a little pushing and snatching, but it was minimal. They sat and played together for almost an hour. How sweet.

Stand Alone.

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

For the past few days, Athan has been showing interest to stand by himself. He would use me as his support to stand, and then he would let go his hand. He can stand for quite a while. He was so excited when we cheered him on. Right now, he could stand up by himself from squatting position. Looks like his first step is not too far away! We’ll see.

By the way, he is turning 15 months, and this is about the same time when Calvin started to stand up by himself and took his first step. Exciting!

Long Weekend.

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

It’s a public holiday here today and so I was home with the boys. How nice. The weather was gorgeous and perfect for a family outing. And so, we decided to spend first part of the day at a nearby foreshore with our two favourite little people.

The place was packed with families when we arrived and we had so much trouble finding a parking spot. Thank God that someone left when we circled the area for the third time.

Our family time together turned out to be a fun and enjoyable and, quite stress-less, I have to say. I love time like this.

Calvin had a ball at the children’s play area. He was quite disappointed (he saw the playground) when we told him in the car that we might have to go somewhere else because we could not find parking. And so, he was ecstatic when we finally found a parking spot.

He had so much energy once outdoors. He went on the slide over and over again, climbed ladders, crawled tunnels etc. He wouldn’t stop. He even went on a revolving ring with the other children there. He was hesitant at first, but I encouraged him and went with him to ask the children who were already on the ring. They turned out to be so friendly and Calvin blended in right away. Kids.

This boy loves chasing the birds as well. He ran around the grass area chasing after the birds that were feeding off scraps of food left behind. The thing is, he won’t run too far away from us. He made sure he could see us all the time. He is quite fearful of being left behind.

As for Mr Athan, he was so playful and happy. We believed he had a great time too. He smiled heaps and was very chatty. He wanted to have a share of whatever we are eating or doing. The only thing that restricted him was the fact that he could not walk yet. If he could, I believe he would be following his big brother everywhere and we would have to watch him all the time. This boy is quite adventurous and does not hesitate when it comes to trying new things. He just go for it.

He behaved really well throughout the whole outing, I have to say, given that his nap time was pushed back by quite a lot. He ate well, and was so good with the stroller. He was happy to sit in his stroller and happy to be pushed along.

On our way home, he was so tired, but yet he was very very playful and cheeky. He kept making funny noises at us, and when we returned him with similar *noise*, he chuckled non-stop. This went on for the whole journey home. Amazing.

When we got home, it was way past their nap time. I was so worried that they were over-tired and would play up. Thank God we managed to put them straight to bed without any protest. They went down for 2 hours! That left me with plenty of time to prepare dinner for some friends tonight. Nice.

Here’s our two favourite little people:
