Evening Hymn.

For some reason, I left the music running in the background while having dinner with the boys this evening. I don’t usually do that. Anyway, we were listening to hymns and half way through dinner, I heard Calvin singing “praise the Lord, praise the Lord …..”. And, he said he liked it. I was pleasantly surprised and sang along with the music. The boy was surprised I knew the words and I took the chance to teach him the words for the “refrain” part. He was happy to learn it. He even said “mum, this is the church song right?” Well, he meant to say we sing this hymn at church. He remembered. I think I should play hymns at home more often as I do think that children can learn to appreciate hymns at a young age.

Here’s the hymn that Calvin was learning this evening:

To God Be The Glory

To God be the glory, great things he hath done!

So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,

who yielded his life an atonement for sin,

and opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

let the earth hear his voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,

and give him the glory, great things he hath done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

to every believer the promise of God;

the vilest offender who truly believes,

that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

(Refrain)

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,

and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son;

but purer, and higher, and greater will be

our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

(Refrain)
