Read To Me!

It was after day care for the boys and as usual, they were demanding and clingy (esp. Athan).  I was in a hurry to get dinner ready, but I reminded myself to slow down.  I sat with the boys and read one of their favourite books “The Incredible Book Eating Boy” by Oliver Jeffers with them.  It worked. The two monkeys seemed content and happy enough to play by themselves — at least for a while.

I was preparing dinner and in less than 5 minutes, I could hear someone crying …. *sigh*.  Such times can be stressful, especially if Robin was not home yet and I am in the middle of cooking.  I tend to leave them to resolve their conflict but it doesn’t work all the time and I have to mediate.

Athan came running to me crying and said he wanted me to read the book with him again. I was going to say “no” to him until I thought of an idea.  I suggested Calvin to read to Athan! I didn’t think Calvin would, but he surprised me.  He took Athan by the hand like a big brother, sat him down and began reading — in his own way and in the way he remembered the story — to his little brother.  I managed to capture the moment:

How sweet.

I always get ren to read to ying! Now that ying can read better, they take turns to read a book. Think they enjoy that ‘sibilings time’ together.

Make it a routine for your boys, believe Calvin will enjoy his role.
