3 Today!

Calvin turns 3 today! He has had a great day today.

Early in the morning, he received a phone call from his best friend, Alison wishing him a happy birthday. Again, these 2 spoke in their own language which only they could understand. 🙂 Then there was another phone call from his favourite cousin, Serene in Singapore. And then, there were 2 cards in the mail and a huge parcel for him at our doorstep. It was from Singapore, from my family. In it were lots of books and toys. A BIG thank you to all of you who have sent your well wishes and presents!

After all the excitement, Calvin was off to day care as it’s Tuesday today. I was told that he was all smiles today. His kinda dance teacher wrote in his progress report that he is a quiet and sweet boy, a very observant child and he tries very hard in class. His favourite dance is the “hokey pokey” and he loves to play with the musical instruments. His hands and legs coordination is improving and he is part of the Christmas performance! I can’t wait to see my boy perform. 🙂

Robin and I have been really slack when it comes to organising a birthday party for Calvin. But, over the weekend we met up with Flora and Li-On and their girls for lunch and I took the chance to celebrate Calvin’s birthday with them. I bought a little cake (strawberry, chosen by Calvin) and after lunch, we sang birthday songs and both Alison and Calvin took turns to blew the candle. I think that’s the highlight besides eating the cake. 🙂

There’s another celebration today — at grandma’s home. Robin’s mum and aunt cooked a really scrumptious meal for dinner tonight. There was so much food. There were noodles, drumsticks, red eggs … all Calvin’s favourite food. And, there was another strawberry cake. Calvin was very excited when he saw the cake and he was so ready to blow the candles. He even sang the birthday song for himself! This boy really loves eating cake. The way he eats the cake makes it look so delicious.

When we got home after dinner and cake, Calvin was off to play with his new toys. Robin bought him a “Lightning McQueen” (from the animation “Cars” by Pixar) toy car that *talks* and moves after a good shake. Calvin was so fascinated by it. I also took out the car set from his parcel and let him had a play with it. He was absolutely intrigued by how the cars raced down the tracks and went through the tunnel and went over the bridge. I think he likes the *racing* part best. I believe he will be entertained by his new toys for quite a while.

It has been an amazing 3 years watching Calvin grow. He is such a happy boy and is very funny in his own ways. He makes us laugh. His vocabulary in both English and Mandarin has expanded so much this year. He talks in sentences and we find that we can actually reason with him. The challenge is of course, he knows how to answer back when he is being disciplined.

Calvin is very blessed to have so many people who love him. We thank God for all of you!
